Newton W. (Bill) Chism Jr., M.D.

Dr. Chism grew up in the Atlanta area and graduated from Tucker High School. After graduating from high school, he attended the University of Georgia and later transferred to Valdosta State University, where he received a bachelor's degree in chemistry. Dr. Chism was accepted at Medical College of Georgia, from which he graduated and then completed 1 year of family practice residency and 4 years of Obstetrics and Gynecology residency at Medical Center of Central Georgia.

In December 1978, he came to Dublin, Georgia. At that time, there were only 17 physicians in town and a high demand for family practice and obstetrics and gynecology physicians. He practiced for 13 years before he was able to only practice obstetrics and gynecology, which is his passion. For the last 24 years, Dr. Chism has strictly been practicing OB/GYN and looks forward to all of the years to come!

Dublin is 'home' for Dr. Chism. He is very passionate and devoted to serving his community. Dr. Chism was truly called to practice medicine, and he has dedicated his whole adult life to caring for countless patients for 40 years. His love for his patients, Dublin, and the surrounding communities shows daily in his smile and the drive that he has to meet the health care needs of his patients. He has so much pride in all of the babies that he has had the pleasure of delivering. He is now delivering third-generation babies.

Dr. Chism is married to Cathy Garrett Chism. They have 3 children: Trey, Heather, and Misty and 5 grandchildren: Caroline, Will, Cameron, Lily, and Callie. All of their children reside in the Augusta area.

Dr. Chism is teased for not having a real “hobby.” This is another reason that he is loved so much as a physician. Practicing medicine is his “hobby.” He loves learning all of the new techniques, technology, and medical findings as medicine has evolved through his years of practice. The new technology used for different medical procedures is right up his alley because he is a gadget “freak.” You can often find him with a lot of the latest and greatest technology. He has recently begun offering robotic surgery and CoolSculpting®. He is also an avid sports fan. In his spare time, he loves to cheer on the Georgia Bulldogs, Atlanta Braves, and Atlanta Falcons.
